Neighborhood Sports Center am Aschberg

Hamburg, DE

The new district sports center at Aschberg in Hamburg Hamm-Süd is conceived as a multifunctional hub for sports, community, and social exchange. It creates an identity-forming landmark that integrates diverse uses within a cohesive urban and landscape setting.

As part of the redevelopment of the former outdoor pool site, the project establishes a new urban sports hub that combines swimming facilities, a movement daycare, sports hall, club spaces, youth center, gastronomy, and a mobility hub. The building is articulated to form a landmark towards the city while stepping down towards the sports fields, creating a landscape-oriented structure with accessible and usable roof areas. A central foyer with vertical openness connects all levels and acts as a social core.

Programmatic elements are clearly organized: the swimming hall opens towards outdoor areas, the daycare integrates terraces and gardens, club and youth spaces address different orientations, and the sports hall occupies the upper level with access to roof-based play areas. Active use of roofs and terraces creates additional spaces for sports and interaction, strengthening the building’s multifunctional character. Public areas, including gastronomy and mobility services, activate the surroundings and enhance accessibility. The project forms an open, inclusive, and vibrant place that brings together diverse user groups and promotes community, activity, and urban identity.
