Not only buildings, but the quality of the urban environment as a whole, shape our well-being. This concern for the physical context has led to a diverse portfolio of projects, united by their sensitivity to the culture and climate of each place and by their shared goal of enhancing the quality of life for their users and surroundings.
Each project emerges from a rigorous selection process and is developed within a framework of contemporary political and social considerations. It is an iterative, rather than linear, process. We follow no fixed formula and deliberately avoid repeating past projects in new contexts. Instead, we respond uniquely to the specific demands of each project and its setting. The result is often a building or structure that, over time, becomes a familiar and symbolic landmark — emblematic of its place and respectful of the genius loci. Such projects bring innovation — social, technological, and formal — and are most successful when these aspects intersect.
Our design process actively involves clients in the development of architecture. We work closely with client representatives and user groups, presenting the evolving design regularly not only to the clients, but also to the future inhabitants of the building. This participatory approach enriches the design and, importantly, prepares future occupants for their new environment.
As architects, we must address an ever-growing range of concerns and considerations throughout the design and realization of a project. As the number of consultants increases—whether from traditional planning disciplines or newer fields — the architect’s role becomes ever more demanding. We see it as our responsibility, as leaders of the design team, to ensure that all parties involved are heard and able to contribute meaningfully, while ensuring that social and human aspects remain central to the process.
