The project introduces a new building within a heterogeneous campus setting, carefully responding to topography, views, and existing structures. Its design balances functional requirements with spatial integration and future flexibility.

site plan

The site is characterized by loosely arranged buildings of varying scale and style, as well as a steep, tree-covered slope that limits development. The required building volume is substantial, making integration challenging. The design therefore prioritizes orientation toward the landscape and views, while minimizing negative impacts on neighboring structures and maintaining daylight access to surrounding spaces. Rather than adopting existing forms, the building develops an independent geometry shaped by internal functional relationships and site conditions. Its configuration allows for a clear spatial identity while remaining responsive to the context.

Existing circulation routes and visual connections across the campus are preserved and integrated into the design. Pathways are extended through and around the building, strengthening connectivity and interaction. Key sightlines are maintained, supporting orientation and collaboration while opening views toward the valley and between new and existing structures.

The building is conceived with future expansion in mind. Structural systems and technical infrastructure are dimensioned to accommodate additional laboratory and office spaces. The geometry allows for seamless extensions that follow the original design logic, ensuring that future growth integrates naturally into the overall architectural concept.
